FOSSILS
There are three main types of fossils: Mineral Replacement Fossils, Impression Fossils and Preserved Remains. Of those types, there are specific types. For mineral replacement fossils, we often refer to them as petrified fossils. Wood isn't the only thing that gets petrified. Most of the fossils you've seen are petrified. If you saw a bone at a museum, chances are it's actually a mineral replacement fossil. That or it's a man made replica of a fossil. It's rarely if ever the actual bone because the bone will have been decayed by now. Impression Fossils can be trace fossils, carbon films, molds or casts. Read more about those different types below. Lastly, there are real remains. These remaines have been preserved in either ice, tar, or amber (hardened tree sap.) If you've ever seen Jurrasic Park, you'll remember the mosquito they found in the amber. Use the links below to learn more about each type of fossil.

What is the difference between renewable and non-renewable resources?
Natural resources are things that we use that come from the earth and are naturally made. Of those natural resrouces, some take MILLIONS of years to form and we are using up those resources faster than they can replenish themselves. Other natural resources don't take nearly as long to remake. We call resources that can be made again, or renewed, quickly RENEWABLE resources. We call resources that take a long time to be remade (millions of years) or cannot be made again quickly NON-RENEWABLE resources.
Renewable: Plants, Animals; Inexhaustible: (special kind of renewable resources): solar, hydroelectric, wind, geothermal
Nonrenewable: Fossil fuels: natural gas, coal, petroleum (oil), Metals: aluminum, gold, iron

:How exactly does sediment and/or runoff pollution reach Shoal Creek if it is so far away instead of landing in a yard or parking lot? Parking lots and roads are slanted so they don’t flood. Storm drains, which are pipes connected to the local creek, are in streets to help supply that creek with water that is then passed onto the larger river.

How to prevent water pollution:
- DO NOT pour fat from cooking or any other type of fat, oil, or grease down the sink. ...
- DO NOT dispose of household chemicals or cleaning agents down the sink or toilet. ...
- DO NOT flush pills, liquid or powder medications or drugs down the toilet. ...
- Avoid using the toilet as a wastebasket. ...
- Avoid using a garbage disposal.
- Conserve water by turning off the tap when running water is not necessary. This helps prevent water shortages and reduces the amount of contaminated water that needs treatment.
- Be careful about what you throw down your sink or toilet. Don’t throw paints, oils or other forms of litter down the drain.
- Use environmentally household products, such as washing powder, household cleaning agents and toiletries.
- Take great care not to overuse pesticides and fertilisers. This will prevent runoffs of the material into nearby water sources.
- By having more plants in your garden you are preventing fertiliser, pesticides and contaminated water from running off into nearby water sources.
- Don’t throw litter into rivers, lakes or oceans. Help clean up any litter you see on beaches or in rivers and lakes, make sure it is safe to collect the litter and put it in a nearby dustbin.
