Tuesday, Jan 23rd was a big day!
I found my first tardigrade! Actually several! However, it was after school, so students haven't seen them yet. I'm still getting used to finding them!
We have four tree species we are taking samples from:
Youpon
Cedar Elm
Gray Oak
Texas Oak
As of now, I've only found microscopic animals in the Cedar Elem samples. We aren't sure if this is because we don't know what to look for, having troubles finding them, or the Cedar Elm lichen is the only house for tardigrades, nematodes, and rotifers. I highly doubt that! So, we haven't exactly been able to start our data collection yet. We are still trying to learn how to find them! However, on Jan 23rd, here's what we found:
